(GCS-AIHA) Scholarship Fund
with the Greater Houston Community Foundation

APPLICATION DEADLINE:  May 1st for the Fall School Year Scholarship. If May 1st falls on a weekend or Holiday, the applications will be accepted the next Business day.

Purpose:

This scholarship was established by the Gulf Coast local section of AIHA to support the mission of the American Industrial Hygiene Association, which is to promote, protect, and enhance industrial hygienists and other occupational health, safety and environmental professionals in their efforts to improve the health and well-being of workers, the community, and the environment.  Financially assisting industrial hygiene students in their career path supports this mission. The scholarship has been established by the GCS-AIHA to provide financial assistance to selected students majoring in Industrial Hygiene related course work, in any of the institutions of Higher Education identified by the GCS-AIHA Board of Directors, who have met the criteria outlined below. This scholarship is to support tuition, textbooks or associated fees by undergraduate and graduate students in the pursuit of their degree.  Based on need and availability of the funds, the award fund may also be used for travel expenses incurred by students conducting field studies or presenting the results of their research at a professional meeting associated with or sponsored by AIHA.

Award:

Scholarships are awarded for one semester in the fall.  The minimum scholarship amount is $2,000 awarded to the student through their university. The GCS-AIHA Scholarship Committee will meet and review applications for completeness, merit and need. The Greater Houston Community Foundation manages the distribution of the award following the student recipient’s university scholarship procedures. Applicants should describe their financial need for this award such as anticipated tuition costs. The award recipient(s) will be contacted and announced at the June GCS-AIHA meeting (usually held on the first Thursday of the month in partnership with the Gulf Coast Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (GCC-ASSE) generally meeting from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Houston, TX or the Greater Houston region).  For further information on the Gulf Coast AIHA see the following web-site: http://aihagulfcoast.com/ .
